I tried to solve it by upgrading to windows 10 using the Window's Media Creation Tool -> upgrade system without creating a boot image (I don't have a flash drive on me and my PC never had a disc drive) Running chkdsk /r as admin still results in the "cannot run due to error, please revert recent software changes" And BSOD's and hangs are infrequent but persistent.
However I have been unsuccessful in repairing (what I assume is) the corruption copied to the new drive. After ruling it down to a failing C drive causing corruption, I purchased a SSD and mirrored my damaged Drive.
About two weeks ago, my system started hanging / BSODing infrequently.
